Preparation:

• Ensure the orthodontic brackets and archwires are clean and dry before application
• Select the appropriate color of ligature ties based on the patient’s preference or treatment plan

Application:

• Using tweezers or a ligature gun, grasp one end of the ligature tie
• Gently stretch the ligature tie and slide it around the bracket hook on the tooth
• Release the stretched end, allowing it to securely fit around the archwire and bracket hook

Adjustment:

• Check each ligature tie to ensure it is securely in place and providing adequate tension on the archwire
• Adjust as necessary to ensure proper alignment and effective force for orthodontic treatment

Completion:

• After applying and adjusting the ligature ties, trim any excess length if needed to avoid interference with oral hygiene or patient comfort

Maintenance:

• Advise the patient on proper oral hygiene practices to maintain cleanliness around the ligature ties and brackets
• Monitor the ligature ties during subsequent appointments to ensure they remain secure and effective throughout the treatment
