Preparation:

• Gather all necessary items: Hanau Spring FaceBow, sterilized bite fork, cotton roll, base plate wax, barred Parker, and a medium for heating the wax.
• Ensure the top side of the fork is indicated by the raised metal button, aligning it with the patient’s left.

Preparing the Bite Fork:

• Apply heat evenly to both sides of the base plate wax until a gloss appears, indicating proper working temperature.
• Fold the wax in half to acquire sufficient thickness for capturing cusp tips.
• Seal the folded wax edges to prevent separation.
• Adapt the wax onto the fork using the raised metal button as a guide, molding it firmly to conform to all corners of the fork.

Capturing the Bite Registration:

• Rewarm the wax if necessary to ensure proper adaptation and capturing of cusp tip indications.
• Carefully place the bite fork into the patient’s mouth, aligning the midline mark with the patient’s mid-facial plane.
• Gently press the fork against the upper teeth to form an impression of the cusp tips, avoiding excessive pressure to prevent perforating the wax.
• Inspect the wax to ensure only cusp tips are captured with at least three points of contact.

Finalizing FaceBow Placement:

• Hold the clamp assembly with your right hand and the ear bow with your left.
• Guide the number three clamp onto the fork stem, positioning it three-fourths of the distance toward the patient.
• Expand the ear bow smoothly into the patient’s external auditory meatus, self-centering the clamp number three to correct anterior-posterior differences.
• Palpitate the infraorbital notch and position the orbital pointer towards it to align the ear bow.
• Adjust the vertical rod until the pointer is parallel to the orbital.
• Tighten the clamps while supporting the bite fork to secure the position.

Completing the Registration:

• Remove the facebow assembly from the patient, expanding the ear bow halves gently.
• Securely tighten all clamps and disinfect the registration as recommended.
• Proceed to mount the maxillary cast using the captured bite registration for accurate articulation and fabrication of dental restorations.
